A name of extraordinary prestige joins the cast of the first edition of Tennis on the Racetrack, Imola 2023, scheduled for May next year. This time the organisers of the Invitational Tournament – born from the idea of CC LAB Consultant Ltd and organised by CC Lab Italia Srl in association with the Enzo and Dino Ferrari International Racetrack of Imola – have secured the presence of Alexander Zverev, current World Number 2 and winner of the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, the end-of-season event that brings together the eight best players in the world.
Zverev joins the two Italian players previously announced, namely Matteo Berrettini – who again proved himself among the top players on grass by winning two ATP tournaments in a row – and the Turin-born Lorenzo Sonego. With the German, the group of stars is embellished with a precious gem, who for his age, results and technical characteristics, has already placed himself among the candidates for the next World Number 1.
Although he had a devastating fall, badly damaging his ankle, during a magnificent performance in the recent Roland Garros semi-finals against Rafael Nadal, which dashed his Grand Slam hopes, he underwent successful surgery immediately and is determined to start working hard to get back on track as soon as possible.
The German has now become a certainty of the circuit, with performances consistently up to expectations, even against the strongest players in the world. When he won the 2017 Internazionali d’Italia in Rome, Alexander was already a young aspiring champion with big dreams and Grand Slam ambitions. His best result in a Major to date has been the 2020 US Open final (lost to Dominic Thiem) but there is little doubt that the taboo will soon be broken. He has already won an Olympic Gold (Tokyo 2020) and 18 tournaments on the circuit.
Meanwhile, the organizers of Tennis on the Racetrack – Sonja Iumiento (Director CC LAB Consultant Ltd), Claudio Scopece (Project Manager Tennis on the Racetrack) and Giorgio Tarantola (Technical Consultant Tennis on the Racetrack Imola 2023) – are creating an event which is growing more exciting by the day and which has already attracted stars of the finest calibre. Zverev is an example and is the tip of the iceberg of a project created to teach school, starting from Italy and in particular from Imola – where in May 2023, tennis and motors will meet to give life to an absolute first in world sport.
