Yesterday, 8 August, Tennis, a sport beloved by the general public, was once again tinged with azure, in a year of Italian revival, with a season of successes and not only in the sports field.
In a magical all-Italian night, Jannik Sinner (19), celebrated his 20th birthday early, winning the Citi Open tournament in Washington, after nearly a 3-hour battle against Mackenzie McDonald.
The first set turned out to be a fight with no holds barred, in which the Italian tennis player always managed to recover from difficult moments, thanks to his humour, as well as his physical and mental condition.
In the second set, the American recovered, but in the third set, the Italian athlete prevailed again and triumphed with a 7-5, 4-6, 7-5 win.

Jannik Sinner is the first Italian tennis player, to win the title. It is also the South Tyrolean player’s first ATP 500. The number 24 in the world, therefore, moves to the world number 15 in the ATP ranking – his best ranking, as well as Italy’s – and to tenth place in the Race for the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin.
The 19-year-old from Sesto Pusteria, in the province of Bolzano, also becomes the youngest winner in the history of a 500 and the second Italian to reach the final in all three categories of ATP tournaments, i.e. 250, 500 and 1000 in the same season after Matteo Berrettini, who reached the final in a Grand Slam. A successful year for Italian Tennis.
